FIRST VALAIS VILLAGE
Châtelard Village has long been the first village in Valais that travelers could see between Chamonix and Martigny. A rock shelter (Barma Rossa) located on the right side of the valley (Trento Common) shows signs of significant transition experienced by the region in the 18th and 19th centuries. An engraving from 1821 reported the purchase of the site by a couple of young English lords.
A first hydroelectric dam water Turbines Barberine is built in 1925. In 1974 a new factory and a buffer were added to the complex. Expansion works are underway.
